Royals Battle to 2nd Place at HCC Indoor Conference Meet

The Hamilton Southeastern boys track and field team put together an impressive performance at the HCC Indoor Conference Meet on March 11, finishing 2nd overall with 87 points. Brownsburg won the team title with 130.33 points, while the Royals finished ahead of Avon, Noblesville, Franklin Central, Westfield, Fishers, and Zionsville in a deep conference field. Hamilton Southeastern had big performances across the track and in the field, highlighted by a conference championship in the 4x800 relay. Omar Elsayed, Liam McNiven, Drew Cole, and Will Henning raced to 1st place in 8:03.24, giving the Royals a huge boost in the team standings. The distance crew continued to shine in the 3200 meters, where Liam Powers placed 2nd in 9:17.04 and Isaac Smith took 3rd in 9:22.77. Powers and Smith also helped lead the Royals to another podium finish in the 4000-meter distance medley relay, joining Omar Elsayed and Drew Cole to take 3rd place in 10:49.44. In the hurdles, Sam Long finished 3rd in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.14, while Sam Irish placed 5th in 8.71. In the 60-meter dash, Shawn Campbell took 6th in 7.09. The Royals also picked up points in both sprint relays. The 4x200 relay team of Nathan Zakrzewski, Kerry Snow, Connor Gorman, and Shawn Campbell finished 5th in 1:33.68. In the 4x400 relay, Charlie Blackburn, Weston Kopeck, Liam Sayers, and Connor Gorman also earned a 5th-place finish, running 3:36.97. In the field events, Andrew Krohn tied for 2nd in the pole vault, clearing 13 feet. KJ Mallett placed 5th in the shot put with a throw of 48-4.5, and Chris Beck finished 8th in the high jump at 6 feet. With a conference runner-up finish, a relay title, and strong scoring performances across multiple events, the Royals showed great balance and competitiveness in one of the state’s toughest conferences.
