FISHERS, Ind. – Hamilton Southeastern High School Athletics is proud to announce the hiring of Tim Richey, one of Indiana's most decorated and respected track & field coaches, as the next Head Coach of the Royals Boys Track & Field program, pending Hamilton Southeastern Schools Board of Trustees approval. Hamilton Southeastern Athletics would also like to express its sincere appreciation to former Head Coach Garrett Lawton for his leadership, dedication, and commitment to the Royals Boys Track & Field program. We are grateful for the impact he made on our student-athletes and wish him continued success in the future. Over the course of more than three decades, Richey has built a reputation for developing championship programs, producing elite student-athletes, and establishing cultures centered on discipline, confidence, and excellence. His coaching career has included successful stops at White River Valley, Lawrence Central, Ball State University, the University of Indianapolis and Pike High School. Among his many accomplishments, Richey was inducted into the Indiana Track & Field Hall of Fame in 2021, recognizing a coaching career that includes multiple IHSAA State Championships, regional titles, county championships, and the development of numerous individual state champions, state record holders, High School All-Americans, and collegiate standouts. As head coach, he guided Lawrence Central's girls teams to state championships in 2010 and 2014 and the Bears' boys team to a state title in 2012, while also helping establish one of the premier field event programs in the nation. For Richey, the opportunity to lead Hamilton Southeastern represents more than simply taking over a successful program—it is a chance to invest in his own community. "I want to contribute to our home community and the overall athletic program at HSE. The athletic department leadership of Drew Tower, his commitment to excellence, and pursuit of it really resonated with me. I want to continue the chase with like-minded people. Winning is contagious." Richey is excited about building a championship-caliber culture that complements the tradition of success already established within Hamilton Southeastern Track & Field. "The opportunity to bring this program, alongside the already successful girls program, to a level that is among the best in the Midwest every season is incredibly exciting. We want to compete for conference and state championships year after year while representing a community that values excellence." His coaching philosophy centers on developing confident athletes through intentional preparation, disciplined habits, and consistent growth. "Confidence comes from successful practice. Our job as coaches is to create opportunities for athletes to experience success, build mastery through progressive development, and establish the discipline required to achieve excellence. Those principles have proven successful at every level I've coached." “We are excited to welcome Tim Richey to Hamilton Southeastern and the Royals family,” said Athletic Director Drew Tower. “Coach Richey’s track record of developing champions speaks for itself, but what impressed me most throughout this process was his passion for developing young people and his commitment to building a culture of excellence. He understands that sustained success is rooted in discipline, meaningful relationships, and the daily pursuit of improvement. We believe he is the right leader to elevate our boys track & field program while continuing to build on the proud tradition of Hamilton Southeastern Track & Field. We’re thrilled to welcome Tim and his family to the Royals community.” “We are thrilled to welcome Tim Richey to the Hamilton Southeastern Track & Field family,” said Girls Track & Field Head Coach Julie Alano. “His experience and knowledge of track and field is a welcome addition to the staff that will continue to work together to ensure that both the boys and girls programs are successful.” Richey and his wife, Maigen, who serves as the head girls track coach at Fall Creek Junior High, reside in Fishers with their son, Kane. Their deep ties to the Hamilton Southeastern community make this opportunity especially meaningful as they continue investing in the next generation of Royals student-athletes. Hamilton Southeastern Athletics is excited to welcome Tim Richey to the Royals family and looks forward to the leadership, passion, and championship experience he will bring to the Boys Track & Field program.
