Football Freshman vs Carroll High School (40 - 7) Win The HSE Freshman Football Royals hosted their opponents from the North out of Fort Wayne, Carroll High School this past Saturday. After a big win by the Royals JV Team, the Freshman Royals looked to do their part as the HSE Football program for the first time. The Royals would begin the game kicking off to the Carroll Chargers and the defense would find themselves with a quick 3 and Out and force the visitors to punt it away. A roughing the passer by the Chargers would negate an interception and keep the Royals offense on the field. After a long run by Breck Myers to get into Chargers territory, Ethan Latta would connect with Tyler Tappendorf for the touchdown pass. The PAT would be unsuccessful and the Royals took the early lead 6-0. The defense would force another 3 and Out with a big pass break up by Anthony Chilcote. The Royals offense would make quick work with the ball as they scored just a few plays later with Myers finding space on the left side for the rushing touchdown. The PAT was good this time, the snap, hold, and kick was executed by Kruz, Myers, and Graham Wargel to push the lead to 13-0. After two near interceptions by the Royals on defense, they would force their third consecutive 3 and Out with the Chargers punting the ball away. On the ensuing drive, Vance Johnson would break free for a long run and Latta connected with Gage Weaver with a tough catch near the sideline to move the chains. Latta then found Tate Krzyminski wide open in the secondary for the touchdown pass. Kruz, Myers, and Wargel took care of the PAT to push the lead to 20-0. The defense would continue to be difficult for the Chargers Offense, Krzyminski would do his part on the defensive side for the tackle for loss, a botched snap didn’t help the visitors as they were forced into another punt. Latta found Will Emkow and Krzyminski in the air but the offense was unable to convert on 4th down to keep the drive alive. The defense would put the exclamation point on the first half as Ryan James would get the strip sack fumble and Chilcote would grab it off the ground for the scoop and score. The 2 point attempt would fail to convert as the score would continue to favor the Royals 26-0 as the first half came to a close. The Royals started the second half on Offense, Latta connected with Myers and Weaver in the air, before Johnson took the hand off near midfield and broke free for the long touchdown run. The PAT crew took care of the snap, hold, and kick for a 33-0 lead. The Chargers would gain some momentum on their ensuing drive with a few first downs in the air before pressure by James resulted in Chilcote intercepting the pass and taking it back for Pick 6. The PAT was good and the score was now 40-0. Wargel would save a potential kickoff return for a score with a tackle near midfield to stop the returner. The defense would get a stop on 4th down to the give ball back to the offense. Dom Juskow connected with Mason McClure for a short pass but the Royals would be forced to punt and the Chargers were able to sneak through and block the punt to set their offense up with good field position late in the game. A late touchdown pass by Carroll would make the score 40-7, as the game would soon end shortly thereafter. The HSE Freshman Royals will be back at home again to take on the Panthers of North Central next Saturday, August 29th at 10AM.
