Varsity vs Zionsville High School (17 - 46) Loss With 6 starters missing action due to a wave of illness and a couple of injuries, the Royals battled to some hard fought losses but ultimately took it on the chin to the visiting Zionsville Eagles. The dual began at 175 where Grady Wafford battled to a close decision loss and the Eagles were off on a run that would not stop for several matches. Zionsville won by decision over 190 pound Royal Reid Snider and then took a fall over fill in starter Brandon Alvarez at 215 to go up 12-0. Freshman AW Vankirk battled with the Zionsville HWT but ultimately dropped a major decision. At 106, looking to turn the tide, fill in Cale Beattie lost a close one to make the score 19-0 in favor of the Eagles. Things went from bad to worse as Junior Will Lakes got out to an early lead, then got stuck into a cradle and pinned over an opponent he probably beats if they wrestle again. With Senior Aidan Smalley injured, the Royals bumped a little to fill in with Xander Huynh at 120 and #18 Sully Frazier took a Tech fall win to push the lead to an unsurmountable 30-0 headed into 126. HSE finally got on the board with a 1st period fall from Senior Nick Anderson at 126 but then two closely contested matches at 132 and 138 saw Parker Culp and Dylan Lane, filling in for his first Varsity match, drop close decision victories that they should likely have had if we do this all over again. With the Dual in hand, Zionsville went ahead and took a major decision over Matthew Billet at 144, who was bumped up to fill the line-up before Chris Casler did what Chris Casler does and win by Tech Fall over his Eagle opponent despite being up a weight class. Freshman Owen Brees got pinned quickly filling in at 157 before Sophomore Cohen Davis finished the dual on a positive note with a 2nd period fall. The Royals will be on the road this weekend at Clinton Prairie and look to get good matches in for their healthy wrestlers prior to the Mudsock meet next week at Fishers!
