Senior Maya Makalusky has been named the HCC Athlete of the Year for Girls Basketball by a vote of the conference coaches. Makalusky was a 4 year starter who led the Royals to 3 consecutive HCC titles. During that 3 year span HSE went 20-1 in the extremely competitive Hoosier Crossroads Conference. Maya’s Royals went a re- markable 83-16 during her career. Maya led Hamilton Southeastern to Sectional and Regional titles this year while averaging 22.1 ppg, 6.8 rpg, shot 40% from 3 point range and 80% from the free throw line. She finished her career as the all-time leading scorer at Hamilton Southeastern with 1933 points. That point total places her 2nd on the all-time HCC scoring list. Makalusky was named 1st team All HCC 3 consecutive years. In addition, Maya was recently named the Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year. Coach Brian Satterfield states, “to watch her overall game grow this past year was tremendous as she led us in 9 statistical categories. Opposing teams threw every defense designed to try to slow her down, but she still played within the system and competed to help our team win. Her leadership and willingness to sacrifice for the team is what makes her truly special. She has left a legacy that many future Royals will try to replicate.” Maya will continue her education and basketball career at Indiana University.
