Hamilton Southeastern Boys Claim Thrilling County Title by a Single Point

The 2025 Hamilton County Boys Track and Field Championship delivered high intensity Thursday night at Hamilton Southeastern High School, as the host Royals clinched the team title in the final event of the evening—the 4x400 meter relay. HSE edged out Westfield by a razor-thin margin, 120.5 to 119.5. The win was a full team effort, with the Royals earning critical points across sprints, distance, hurdles, jumps, and throws. However, it was the final lap of the 4x400 relay that sealed the deal. Anchored by senior standout Christian Ortiz, HSE’s squad of Michael Mott, Kallen Hoeft, Omar Elsayed, and Ortiz stormed to a first-place finish in 3:22.81—earning 10 crucial points and vaulting the Royals past Westfield for the championship. Sprint & Hurdles Standouts Christian Ortiz shined in the 400m dash, taking home the individual title in a blistering 47.93. Junior Sam Long swept both the 110m (15.09) and 300m hurdles (38.89), while sophomore Hadi Tebanja added valuable points with a third-place finish in the 300s (41.66). Senior Tyler Tholen contributed across both the 100m and 200m, placing 6th and 2nd respectively, while sophomore Zachary Christopherson grabbed 5th in the 200m. HSE’s 4x100 relay also came up big, finishing third with strong legs from Liam Boyd, Tholen, Chandler Weston, and Christopherson. Distance Dominance Junior Liam Powers turned in a clutch performance in the 3200m, taking first in 9:29.40, while senior Aidan Lawson added points with a 6th-place finish. Sophomores Mason Schmitz and Will Henning finished 5th and 7th in the 800m, and senior Ben Tuckis earned 8th in the 1600m. The 4x800 relay team (Elsayed, Deagan Baker, Tate Watson, and Liam McNiven) secured a fifth-place finish to add depth to the Royals’ distance performance. Field Event Highlights Senior Evan Senefeld cleared 14’ 0” to claim the pole vault title, and Dylan James jumped 22’ 2.25” to place third in the long jump. Liam Boyd also contributed with a 7th-place mark in the same event. In the high jump, juniors Chris Beck and Julian Wilder both cleared 6’ 0” to earn 6th and 8th respectively, while sophomore Darian Dos Santos added crucial points in discus with a 6th-place throw of 136’ 10”.
