The season opener against neighboring county rival, Mt Vernon Marauders, proved to be the perennial great battle between these teams. The Royals scored first, just 16 minutes into the match, with Nick Kestian (9) scoring off of an assist from Cooper Perez (8). Mt Vernon then equalized the score to 1-1. Undeterred, the Royals came right back in the 34th minute scoring off of an assist by Nick Kestian (9) to Jack Barnes (44) for a great team goal! Score going into half was 2-1. The Royals started strong in the second half. Jonathan Ramos-Perez (11) was able to find the back of the net in the 65th minute of play to give the Royals a lead of 3-1. The Royals defense and midfield remained relentless throughout the second half denying Mt. Vernon positive opportunities on goal. To seal the deal, Nick Kestian (9) continued to fight for the ball against the Mt. Vernon goalkeeper and found the 4th goal of the morning to make the final score 4-1 Royals. Next up the Royals take on Cathedral at HSE on Tuesday, August 19th.
