Boys Varsity Soccer Ties Cathedral HS in Tense Match

By Heather Kestian | Aug 20, 2025 9:46 AM

The HSE Boys Varsity soccer team ended the game against Cathedral HS in a draw. The Irish scored first with a shot that bounced off the post and ricocheted into the back of the net within the first three minutes of the game. The Royals had a number of opportunities to score in the first half but were unable to find the back of the net and went into halftime down one goal. Not to be deterred, the Royals roared back in the second half with solid runs and several shots. One shot from Senior Jack Barnes (#44), while saved by Cathedral's goalkeeper, was deflected by a Cathedral defender leading to an own goal by Cathedral--and tying the game with less than 20 minutes to play. The two teams continued in a tense back-and-forth game until time ended and the Royals walked away with a draw (1-1). You won't want to miss the next game and this incredible team, who will play Theodore Guerin Catholic HS on Saturday, August 23 at 11:30 am on the HSE turf field. Graphic courtesy of JRFilms.1.
